Mission & Values

We believe movement is a human right.

Gaza Sunbirds exists to advance mobility justice in Palestine by restoring movement, dignity, and possibility through sport, humanitarian action, storytelling, and global solidarity.

our purpose

Restoring movement, dignity, and possibility. In Palestine, movement is restricted at every level: borders, infrastructure, bodies, opportunity, and public life.

For Palestinians with disabilities, these barriers are compounded by war, occupation, isolation, inaccessible systems, and the lack of long-term rehabilitation pathways.

Gaza Sunbirds was created to challenge those restrictions. Through para-cycling, humanitarian action, rehabilitation, storytelling, and international solidarity, we work to reopen pathways to participation, aspiration, and representation.

Our Mission

Gaza Sunbirds is building a movement around mobility justice by empowering Palestinians with disabilities through para-cycling, humanitarian action, rehabilitation, storytelling, and global solidarity, using sport as a pathway to survival, visibility, and systemic change.

We support our community to move from injury to recovery, from recovery to training, and from training to international representation. At the same time, we support communities in Gaza through direct aid and local response, because mobility justice is not only about sport. It is about the ability to live, access care, reach others, and take part in public life.

As we build toward the LA2028 Paralympic Games, we see international competition not only as athletic achievement, but as diplomacy through sport: a way to demonstrate that Palestinian athletes belong on the world stage.

The vision

Our vision is to build a future where Palestinian athletes with disabilities can recover, train, compete, and lead, supported by a rehabilitation centre in Gaza and an international community committed to mobility justice. We envision a future where Palestinians can move freely, pursue their ambitions without structural constraint, and where disability is not intensified by conflict, isolation, or exclusion.

We are working toward a Palestine where athletes with disabilities have access to prosthetics, rehabilitation, training, competition, and international representation, from LA2028 and beyond. At the heart of that vision is a future rehabilitation and training centre in Gaza: a place where people with amputations and disabilities can access care, movement, sport, community, and long-term support. We are also building an international community of riders, volunteers, donors, artists, filmmakers, clubs, campaigners, and partners who turn solidarity into lasting infrastructure.

Our vision is not only to reach the world stage. It is to build pathways that allow Palestinians with disabilities to keep moving long after the race is over.

VALUES

1. Mobility Justice

Movement is a human right. We challenge systems that restrict mobility, whether imposed on disabled bodies or on an entire society. Through sport, aid, rehabilitation, and advocacy, we work to restore access to movement, public life, opportunity, and international representation.

2. Dignity & Self-Determination

Palestinians with disabilities are not passive beneficiaries. They are athletes, leaders, organisers, cultural agents, and decision-makers shaping their own futures and contributing to collective recovery. Our work is built around their agency, not their victimhood.

3. Sport as Bridge and Platform

Cycling is competition, culture, and connection. Through sport, we build bridges across borders, create shared spaces where isolation has been enforced, and open routes for Palestinian athletes to represent their people internationally. Sport gives our athletes discipline, recovery, visibility, and a platform to be seen on their own terms.

4. Storytelling as Impact

Narrative shapes policy, perception, and possibility. We use storytelling through articles, film, media, campaigns, and athlete voices to humanise lived experience, mobilise solidarity, and translate attention into material change. We tell these stories not to reduce Palestinians to suffering, but to show leadership, resilience, humour, ambition, and the right to dream.

5. Collective Resilience

Gaza Sunbirds reflects the endurance of Palestinian communities who continue to create, compete, care, and organise under prolonged constraint. Our work is not about individual inspiration alone. It is about collective systems of survival, mutual care, and long-term possibility.

6. Solidarity in JOINED STRUGGLE

Solidarity must transform to joined struggle. It means donating, organising rides, opening doors, sharing resources, volunteering, building partnerships, and helping create the infrastructure that Palestinian athletes and communities need to move forward.

7. Transparency and Trust

We are accountable to our athletes, communities, partners, and supporters.

We aim to communicate clearly how resources are used, what impact they create, and how our work is growing across Gaza, Egypt, Belgium, and the wider international community.

5 years of delivery
Since 2020 we’ve logged five consecutive years of aid runs, sports programmes, and global campaigns—through war, siege, and displacement. That track record means trusted local networks, refined logistics, and the know-how to keep delivering when larger agencies stall.
video reporting
Every aid run is filmed end-to-end, from loading the truck to the hand-offs, so supporters can see precisely where their contributions go. We edit and share these clips within days, tagging donors and partners to celebrate our shared achievements and provide transparent, verifiable proof that the work on screen matches the pledges we make.
price concious
Getting money into Gaza is hard; maximising its impact is non-negotiable. Our field team scouts prices daily. With local connections and price comparisons, we lock in fair pricing to deliver services to the widest number of people possible.
tripple audited
We are tripple audited by our local partners in Gaza, by our international team and by our International Charity Partners. Our funds are held with AMOS Trust for specific purposes. This means the money you send in for aid gets used for aid, and the money you send in for our other activities are held on the side too. Your money will definitely make it to Gaza, every month we are able to expand on the amount of services we are providing people.
impact focused
Aid is paired with story. Each food box or water tank we deliver is photographed or filmed with the family’s consent; the 60-second stories that follow have generated 3 million+ views and a wave of repeat donations. By linking needs to human faces, we transform one-off gifts into sustained community support.

Disability lead
Athletes with disabilities aren’t just beneficiaries here—they’re part of our leadership. From programme design to our teams long term vision, people with disabilities help shape every decision, proving that those most affected by violence and exclusion are best placed to drive bold, inclusive solutions.
Community Run
The Sunbirds are a grassroots collective, led by Palestinians on the ground and in the diaspora. We make decisions close to the communities we serve, cutting out costly bureaucracy and ensuring that resources move quickly from donors to frontline action.

Athletes, team staff, and local volunteers manage every delivery route and training session. Our field team lives inside the camps we serve, so aid lists come from neighbours. Distributed  with a team structure, we move faster than large INGOs, intervening to support our community through a diverse range of interventions.
